3-on-3 League Rules

  • All teams must have an adult (18 & over) on the bench during games.
  • Two (2) 20-minute games each night, running clock. A two (2) minute warm-up is allowed. Game time will be set on the scoreboards and all games will start at the same time. NO timeouts.
  • Games are played on a half court.
  • Each team will provide a parent scorekeeper.
  • Scoring is the same as regular games.
  • The HOME team has first possession.
  • The ball must be checked in a sportsmanship manner at the top of the key after each dead ball.
  • After a made basket, both feet of the player possessing the ball move beyond the 3-point arc; the ball does not have to be checked. Checking here is considered a turnover.
  • Halftime intermission is three (3) minutes.
  • Any intentional foul or technical foul is an automatic two (2) points, and possession of the ball. Any swearing or verbal abuse will result in a technical foul.
  •  Two technical fouls will be cause for ejection from the game. If a team has two technical fouls, the game will end at that point, and they will lose. Coaches, players, and fans may be assessed a technical foul for unsports person-like conduct. The coach will be the team spokesperson. Any fighting will be cause for suspension from the league.
  • Shooting fouls are awarded as if the shot was made (2 or 3 points). One additional point if shot attempt is successful. Possession changes after the foul.
  • On and after the fifth (5) team foul of the game, each non-shooting  foul is one (1) point and possession for the fouled team.
  • No zone defense is allowed.
  • Stalling is not allowed. A warning will be issued and a 10 second shot clock will be administered by the referee. Failure to shoot in the 10 second time frame will result in a turnover. Starting with the second stalling violation, the penalty is a turnover plus two (2) points for the offended team.
  • No jewelry is to be worn while you are playing. This includes ring, earrings, necklaces, barrettes, beads in hair, etc. No taping of these items!
  • No dunking allowed in warm-up, or after the game is over. A technical foul will be given if there is dunking or hanging on the rim during that time.
  • Substitutions only on dead balls (Made shots are not considered dead balls).
  • Teams may start and play with two (2) players. There is a maximum of ten (10) players per team.
  • Teams must wear the same color jersey WITH numbers.
  • Coaches - Seatbelt rule followed by the WIAA.
